Parental Panic

I have always felt that respect is something to be earned, not forced. My parents are overprotective and very strict. Every time one of my brothers or me make the smallest mistakes (or sometimes no mistakes at all) it turns into a reason to scream. And when my parents say something that's truly hurtful, they don't apologize at all. Their attitude towards me has had many negative effects on me and it's going to take me a long time to unlearn these things.
One incident that I want to talk about briefly perfectly describes what's wrong with our relationship. There's a local amusement park that I like to go to with my friends, and my parents usually give me a time to report back to them. (Also, this time is almost always several hours before any of my friends.) We were going to head to a baseball game afterwards, and I ended up at the car no more than five minutes after the given time. When I got off my last ride, I received a call from my dad, who was screaming. Not yelling–screaming! My brothers informed me that he was standing outside the car with the phone inches away from his face yelling into it, and it came across as thunderous on my end. Both parents made a huge deal out of my lateness and told me that it was my fault we would be late for the game.
We were over 40 minutes early.
Now, whenever I have to leave the park, I end up running and if I'm even a minute late, I begin to have a panic attack. I breathe fast and begin to sweat (which I can assure you has nothing to do with the heat) and I even begin to feel queasy. Not only should I not be experiencing these feelings, I should absolutely not be feeling them at the hands of my parents of all people. I don't think a parent has any right to abuse their power over a child the way that my parents do. And if I'm going to be panicking at the hands of my parents, it shouldn't be over something so silly.

Welcome to What's Happening

My name is Autumn Falls, and welcome to what's happening. Life in general is a mess, and I honestly have no idea what's going on. What I do know is that we're living in history. Big things are happening in our world right now, and people are never going to forget these years. I really don't think I can pinpoint when my world began to change. I think it might have had something to do with Donald Trump's presidency. I might be a teenager, but even I know that he's causing problems.      He's one of those people who lives to divide us, and I guess if you didn't read too much into it, you might say it worked. But I believe that in all his efforts to put hatred in our hearts, he only strengthened our capacity for love. He tried to defund Planned Parenthood, and the pro-choice community only rallied harder. He tried to erase the LGBT+ community, but now there are more rainbow flags than ever. He tried to tell us that all Muslims are terrorists, but now e...

Some Laws are Meant to be Broken

In light of the recent events in Charleston, I just want to bring up the fact that some laws ought to be broken. This post is specifically targeted at white people across America, but I encourage everybody to read it. What happened at Charleston (and is continuing to happen) is absolutely unacceptable. This is not the 1950's, and I have no idea why people are acting like it. And this whole resurgence of the Nazis? Disgusting. I saw a quote earlier today, and I truly don't remember who said it, but it basically said that if you're wondering what you would've done during various Civil Rights movements, now is your time. There's a lot of truth in that, too. If you are capable, I encourage you to help. Donate to the victims, BLM, and other worthy causes. Go to anti-fascism marches in your area, protest, make it clear to those around you that hate WILL NOT be tolerated.    I get that not all of us are capable of doing these things and that not all of us are in ...
